Conservatives Call Steven Guilbeault To Testify On His Radical Decree At Environment Committee
August 19, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – After nine years, the Bloc-Liberal coalition is not worth the devastating cost of Steven Guilbeault’s federal decree on Quebec’s forestry sector. Today, after weeks of relentless Conservative pressure to call an emergency meeting at the Committee on this issue, Liberal and Bloc MPs finally caved and called a meeting of the Environment Committee.
Common Sense Conservatives have worked continuously to ensure Quebec forestry workers are at the forefront, forcing the Bloc and Liberals to acknowledge the impact a decree from Trudeau’s radical Environment Minister has had. Due to the efforts of Conservative members, Guilbeault will be appearing to testify for two hours before Committee.
Conservatives will ensure that the study launched today remains focused on the people impacted the most. The over 2,000 people whose lives and livelihoods will be impacted by this decree. That is who Common Sense Conservatives care about, unlike the Bloc who care more about propping up Justin Trudeau’s centralizing government than protecting Quebec’s jobs.
This should come as no surprise to Quebecers. In fact, this federal decree exists because Blanchet has voted 182 times to keep Justin Trudeau in power, giving him carte blanche to interfere with Quebec’s jurisdictions and economy.
It is clear that the Bloc cares more about keeping Justin Trudeau in power than protecting Quebecers’ paycheques. Only Common Sense Conservatives will reverse Guilbeault’s federal decree and replace it with a common sense approach that protects the environment while also protecting Quebec forestry jobs.
