Costly NDP-Liberal Coalition Refuse To Make Life More Affordable For Canadians
November 21, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – After nine years of the NDP-Liberal government, life has never been more expensive for Canadians. Housing costs have doubled. Child poverty has increased by the largest amount on record and food banks had to handle an unprecedented two million visits from Canadians in a single month.
Today, after making everything more expensive with their out-of-control spending and inflationary carbon taxes, the costly NDP-Liberal coalition have promised to fix the economic misery they created by introducing a 2-month GST holiday on a select number of goods.
But this will do nothing to make life more affordable for working Canadians. And no one should trust these pyromaniacs to put out the inflationary fire they created.
As Justin Trudeau said himself in May, “one of the fundamental challenges around affordability is they would love to say, well, you know what, we just need more money. Can you send us more benefits or send us an extra thousand dollars a month? As soon as you do that, inflation goes up by exactly that amount.”
Justin Trudeau and Sellout Jagmeet Singh know that this measly 2-month GST holiday on a few items will do nothing to fix the affordability crisis. And then, instead of giving Canadians actual relief, as soon as the 2-month GST holiday is over the NDP-Liberal coalition will again hike the carbon tax by 19 percent in April 2025, making life even more expensive for everyone.
If the NDP-Liberal government were serious about restoring affordability, they would immediately axe the carbon tax. But instead, Singh and the NDP have voted for Trudeau’s carbon tax 24 times and will hike the tax again in the spring. Singh and Trudeau refuse to accept that if you tax the farmer who grows the food, and the trucker who ships the food, you end up taxing the family who buys the food. No wonder that families will have to spend $700 more on food this year than they did in 2023.
In fact, since Trudeau became Prime Minister, the price of food has increased by 35 percent. The price of gasoline has soared by nearly 50 percent. Rent and mortgage interest costs have increased by 33 percent and 73 percent, respectively.
Canadians deserve relief, not more fake announcements that will do nothing to make life more affordable. Only Common Sense Conservatives will bring home lower prices by axing the carbon tax and fixing the budget.
