Life Will Still Be Unaffordable And Dangerous For Canadians After Trudeau’s Cabinet Retreat

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canada feels broken. Families are having to pay $700 more for food this year than they did in 2023, while millions of Canadians are having to line up outside of food banks. Housing costs have doubled. In Halifax, the municipal government just approved nine new sites for tent cities, and under Trudeau’s dangerous catch-and-release crime policies, violent crime has skyrocketed by 50 percent.

It wasn’t like this before Justin Trudeau and life will still be miserable after the Liberal Government’s cabinet retreat. Trudeau just simply doesn’t understand that life has become unaffordable, and our communities unsafe, as a direct consequence of his government’s policies.

Trudeau has made the cost of everything more expensive with his inflationary taxes and spending. Since Trudeau became Prime Minister, nearly nine out of ten middle-class Canadians are paying higher income tax. And when Conservatives warned that Trudeau’s wasteful spending was keeping interest rates up higher for longer, he decided to add $61 billion of additional government spending.

On top of this, instead of providing Canadians will the relief they deserve, the Liberals decided to hike their carbon tax again this spring by 23 percent, as part of his plan to quadruple the carbon tax by 2030. Meanwhile, the cost of housing has also spiralled out of control, with rent, downpayments, and mortgage costs all doubling since Trudeau became Prime Minister. Despite this, Trudeau is still failing to build the homes that people need. Canada now has fewer housing starts than we did in the 1970s.

All the while Canadians struggle to make ends meet, our once-safe towns and cities have become havens for crime, chaos and disorder. Trudeau’s Bill C-75 has all but guaranteed that even the worst violent offenders will be released on bail shortly after they’re arrested while Bill C-5 has taken away mandatory jail time for even the most serious offences. As a direct result of Trudeau’s dangerous catch-and-release agenda, 256 homicides were committed by an offender who was out on release in 2022 alone.

No matter how many taxpayer-funded cabinet retreats Justin Trudeau holds, this Liberal Government will continue making life more dangerous and unaffordable for Canadians. Only Common Sense Conservatives will axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime.
