NDP-Liberal Coalition Team Up To Shut Down Canadians’ Natural Health Products
November 22, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – Next week, the NDP-Liberal government will try and destroy a Common Sense Conservative Bill that would’ve saved Canadians’ natural health products from Justin Trudeau’s red tape and regulation.
Yesterday, the NDP again decided to protect Justin Trudeau by proposing an amendment to the Conservative Bill C-368 in Health Committee. Originally, this Conservative Bill would’ve kept Canadians safe while reducing the costly and pointless red tape that Justin Trudeau is trying to destroy natural health products with.
But with this new NDP amendment, Trudeau’s Minister of Health will be able to create red tape and bureaucratic barriers that will make natural health products unviable in Canada. On top of this, the Liberal Minister will be able to stop the sale of any natural health product whenever he feels like it.
This will suffocate the natural health product industry. It will limit Canadians’ ability to purchase products like protein powders, vitamins, probiotics, and much more. This is because Trudeau has allowed Health Canada massive new powers to regulate natural health supplements while imposing substantial new fees on the importation, manufacturing, and sale of natural health products and creating stringent new labelling laws.
As the President of the Canadian Health Food Association said, “I think the Conservative Bill is also important because putting natural health products under the definition of therapeutic drugs is not what is good for consumers or the sector. The Liberal-NDP approach lacks any common sense and is misdirected red tape, and government bureaucracy has gone wild. It’s not what’s good for Canadians.”
If the NDP-Liberal coalition go through with this amendment next week, as many as 70 percent of natural health brands have said they will need to withdraw products from the market, and 1 in 5 are considering exiting Canada altogether.
Next week, the NDP has a choice: they can either support Justin Trudeau’s assault on natural health products, or they can vote with Common Sense Conservatives to push back against this governmental overreach and protect the fundamental rights of Canadians to make their own health choices.
