NDP-Liberal Government is “Acting Like A Drug Lord” With Taxpayer-Funded Hard Drugs Experiment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – The NDP-Liberal government’s radical experiment of taxpayer-funded hard drugs has been a disaster for the most vulnerable Canadians. This was made clear today by a mother’s devastating testimony in the House of Commons’ Health Committee on her two children’s experience with so-called “safe supply.”
The NDP-Liberal government’s reckless taxpayer-funded hard drug program has had devastating consequences for Masha Krupp’s two children. Her daughter, Larisa, died in 2020 from methadone toxicity just twelve days into her methadone treatment in Ottawa. This happened because the taxpayer-funded clinic failed to conduct an opioid tolerance test before she started treatment.
Masha Krupp’s son is also battling an opioid addiction. He is prescribed 28 hydromorphone pills daily in addition to his current dose of 45 mg of Methadone. This continues, even though the clinic he attends is well aware that he continues to use street fentanyl. In fact, as Ms. Krupp described in her testimony, she has seen government-funded hydromorphone being diverted to adolescents. Taxpayer-funded hydromorphone is often purchased by teenagers for as little as ten dollars.
Ms. Krupp went on to say that “our Liberal government right now is acting like a drug lord.”
This follows in the wake of a press conference from the Chief of the London Police Service who said that, “diverted safe supply is being resold into our community, it’s being trafficked into other communities, and it is being used as currency in exchange for fentanyl, fueling the drug trade.” This is happening across the country. In British Columbia, the Vancouver Police Department said that around 50 percent of all hydromorphone seizures were diverted from Trudeau’s taxpayer-funded hard drugs program.
The NDP-Liberal government must finally accept that its experiment of taxpayer-funded hard drugs has failed. Only a Conservative Government will stop handing out taxpayer-funded hard drugs, ban them and invest in treatment and recovery to bring home our loved ones drug free.
