NDP-Liberal Government Refuses To Rule Out Giving Huge Bonus To CBC CEO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – After nine years, the NDP-Liberal government has created economic misery for Canadians. In Toronto, more than one in ten residents are having to rely on food banks just to survive, while families are having to spend $700 more on groceries this year. But life for Trudeau-appointed CBC executives has never been so good.
Today, Trudeau’s Minister of Heritage, Pascale St-Onge, refused to rule out giving another massive taxpayer-funded bonus to CBC’s outgoing executive, Catherine Tait. Earlier this year, the CBC paid out $18.4 million in bonuses, including $3.3 million that was awarded to 45 executives. That’s $73,000 per executive, which is much more than an average working Canadian will receive in an entire year.
Even without these bonuses, Catherine Tait is already the highest-paid CBC executive in Canadian history, earning over half a million dollars in her base salary. But Justin Trudeau clearly thinks this is insufficient for his top appointees at the CBC.
Top CBC executives received bonuses even though they have presided over the CBC’s rock bottom. Since 2018, the CBC’s viewership has collapsed by nearly 50 percent, and they have failed to meet 79 percent of the key performance targets that they made for themselves. This year, the CBC also announced they cut 800 jobs in December of last year after receiving $1.4 billion from the Canadian taxpayer.
Soon after this, the CBC had to run to Justin Trudeau to receive an emergency $42 million taxpayer-funded top-up. The last thing this money should go to is more executive bonuses for well-connected insiders who have failed to produce any content Canadians actually want to consume.
The NDP-Liberal government is not worth the cost. Only Common Sense Conservatives will end the greed and corruption at the CBC and focus on bringing home lower prices for Canadians.
