Newsletter – February 18th

Since Parliament has resumed, I have been hard at work – holding Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Government to account, and advocating to be Thornhill’s voice in Ottawa.

Below are some recent updates from Ottawa & Thornhill.

PM Justin Trudeau Falsely Accuses Me of Standing with a Swastika

I think the Prime Minister should think long and hard about his own history before singling out a Jewish Member of Parliament and falsely accusing me of standing with a Swastika. What a disgraceful statement unbecoming of anyone in public office – he owes me an apology.

Demanding the Liberal Government DROP the Redundant Travel Restrictions

Canada’s travel restrictions are out of step from its G7 allies. What will it take for this government to listen to the experts and get rid of these requirements?

I’ve been calling on the government to end their ineffective and punitive travel restrictions for months. They have finally started to listen but they need to drop them all!

An act to amend the Criminal Code (prohibition-promotion of antisemitism)

I had the great honour of sponsoring a Private Member’s Bill brought forward by my colleague MP Kevin Waugh. The passage of this Bill will make the denial of the Holocaust illegal. It is always important to strengthen our system against anti-Semites and am very happy that MP Waugh has done exactly that in this new bill. You can find the text of the bill here and MP Kevin Waugh’s comments here.

Lunar New Year & Meeting the Council General of the Philippines

I got to celebrate the Lunar new year by meeting with so many members of the Thornhill community at the T&T Supermarket located in the Promenade Mall. Kung Hei Fat Choi!

I had the great pleasure of being hosted by His Excellency Counsel General Castro of the Philippines. We had a great discussion about the Filipino community’s contributions to Canada and how Canada and the Philippines can continue to work together as partners.
