Newsletter – February 2nd

Latest from Lantsman – February 2, 2024

This week marked the return of Parliament for the first time in 2024. Although the year is new, the problems are the same: the cost of living is out of control, homes are unaffordable, the budget hasn’t balanced itself, and crime and chaos rule the streets.

Facing these problems, Conservatives have proposed four common-sense solutions: axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime.

We’ll continue to spread our vision for better and our message of smaller government, personal freedoms, and greater prosperity. We’ll keep holding the government to account in Ottawa while connecting with Canadians from coast to coast.

Let’s bring it home!

Yours,

Melissa Lantsman
Member of Parliament for Thornhill
Deputy Leader of Canada’s Conservatives

Trudeau’s Emergencies Act Use Ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL

A Canadian federal court dropped a bombshell ruling last week: Justin Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act during the Trucker Convoy was unconstitutional. He broke the law. Again.

From the beginning, we have called out Trudeau’s disrespect for the rights and freedoms of Canadians and we’ve said it all along – the Prime Minister cannot use emergency powers and weaponize the federal government to silence the voices of others – especially those he disagrees with.

A government that violates the highest law of the land is dangerous.

We will always defend Canada’s Constitution – we will deliver on our promise to make Canada the freest nation on Earth.

Back in Ottawa

Life wasn’t like this before this government and it won’t be like this when they are gone. Common sense Conservatives will axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime. This will be the future for Canadians.

Silence in the face of lies can be as damaging as the deliberately confusing positions of Justin Trudeau. These Liberals choose politics over principle. Every single time.

Another year, another carbon tax increase coming down the pipe on April 1st? It’s time to cancel the increase and scrap the tax so that Canadians can eat, heat, and get to work.

The Prime Minister takes an extravagant vacation he didn’t pay for. Cabinet decides to have a meeting in a luxury hotel. Meanwhile Canadians are struggling with the cost of everything. Kind of out-of-touch, isn’t it?

Out and About – GTA and Beyond

Thank you to the grassroots movement Yalla!, to Adath Israel Synagogue, Inspector Paul Rinkoff, TPS and to host James Pasternak and Rabbi Cutler and other elected officials who participated in our community town hall.

I heard you say: We are angry. We are embarrassed. We feel left behind, unsafe and unheard. We need change. Now.

Proud to celebrate Tamil Heritage Month with The National Council of Canadian Tamils, Canadian Tamil Academy (CTA), Arivaham Canada, and Tamil Heritage Centre. Excited to see so many young people proudly celebrating their vibrant Tamil culture ready to shape a better future for 🇨🇦.

Thank you to my friend Lisa & to Rabbi Samuel Kaye and the rest of the staff and students at Holy Blossom Temple for chatting with me last night at Monday Night School.

Great insights from the next generation of leaders. We’re gonna be more than fine.

Grabbed lunch at Thornhill’s newest 🔥🔥🔥 spot, Bready Café – go check it out! All the carbs, all day long.

Congrats to you and your team, Eran, on this new venture!

Lantsman in the News

Honoured to be named as one of the Hill Times’ 100 Most Influential People in 2024.

I promised to be a strong voice for Thornhill and for millions across Canada – and I won’t let you down.

Sat down with Travis Dhanraj to discuss our agenda for 2024. The year might be new but the Liberal failures are the same.

We’ll continue holding Justin Trudeau to account and proposing a vision for better.

Spoke with Libby Znaimer today on the government’s lack of transparency on UNRWA funding.

But it appears Justin Trudeau actually hasn’t frozen any funding – he actually already transferred the payment, which wasn’t due until the spring. We need answers.

Celebrate Black History Month

February is Black History Month. Canada has been blessed by the achievements and accomplishments of Black Canadians. Despite unbelievable opposition fueled by racism and hate, Black Canadians have persevered. This month we honour that and the continued contribution they make to Canada every single day.

That’s everything that’s happening in my world. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on all the latest.

Wishing you all the best for a restful weekend. I know we’ll be in touch soon.
