Newsletter – January 17th
Latest from Lantsman – January 17, 2025
It’s my first newsletter of the new year and there’s a lot to unpack. The Liberal leadership race is heating up — and it’s turning into the race to see who can run farthest away from Justin Trudeau, the fastest.
But whatever Mark Carney, Chrystia Freeland, or anybody else say — there’s no ignoring the fact that they supported Justin Trudeau and his high-tax, big-government agenda for over 10 years. They stood by him and cheered him on as he burned holes in our budget, burned holes in our wallets, and gave us the misery we feel today.
They can all try to pretend — but at the end of the day, they’re all Just Like Justin.
While the Liberal Party chaos unfolds, our Parliament remains shuttered and we stare down the threats of American tariffs — but it seems the Liberals are more focused on their petty politics than on doing their jobs.
Canadians don’t want a new Liberal Prime Minister and they don’t want a Liberal Leadership Race: they want a Carbon Tax Election to deliver us with real change and a new Conservative Prime Minister — Pierre Poilievre.
Yours,
Melissa Lantsman
Member of Parliament for Thornhill
Deputy Leader of Canada’s Conservatives

Working for You
Thanks Lev and Deni for visiting my office. You had some great questions for me about my job, about Thornhill, and about Ottawa – making sure I’m working hard!
Hope you both enjoyed your holiday break, and keep up the great work in school in 2025.
Thanks Grossman Group for featuring me in your upcoming project! 🎥 Excited to see what you create. Stay tuned everyone! 👀
Honoured to meet with some of Canada’s 💪 Union leaders on Parliament Hill last month after they got to see some of what we do here during Question Period. Thank you for your commitment to hard work, fairness and building the Canada we so desperately need back.
We commemorated the fifth anniversary of the horrific murders by the IRGC’s downing of Flight PS752. I was honoured to stand with the families of the victims in Richmond Hill today. We will always remember the victims – and we will never stop in the pursuit of justice for you.
Honoured to be amongst the first to see a new exhibit: Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away.
With antisemitism and Holocaust distortion rising across the country, hate parades in our streets, and deafening silence by almost every leader in the country — this exhibit might help. This is a step to ensure we preserve the story of survivors and support Holocaust education to teach the next generation about one of the darkest times in human history.
Thank you to Lesley and Keith for bringing this to life.
Thank you to the grade 12 students at CHAT for welcoming me to your school. We chatted about government, about Ottawa, about Jewish pride, and how to combat the hate in our streets that’s been ignored and allowed by leaders in our country. Thank you for using your voices to stand up for what’s right and continue to call it out. Every. Single. Time.
Keep up the great work in your final semester here, and best of luck with your endeavours next year. I know the future of 🇨🇦 is in good hands!
Visited VentureLab – a hub of Canadian innovation and creativity.💡
Thanks to the VL team and all the entrepreneurs for joining me for a round table discussion on how Canada needs to protect and support entrepreneurs with access to capital and talent – to keep innovators and job creators in Canada. 💪🔥🇨🇦
Visited the students of Bais Yaakov of Thornhill – thank you for showing me all the amazing work you’re doing in class and for your awesome questions. 📚
Thank you to Principal Steier, Rabbi Irons, and Mrs. Gould for the warm welcome.
Practiced some painting skills at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades 🎨
Thank you for showing me your training centres – and for supporting our plan to axe 🪓 the Liberal job-killing carbon tax and capital gains tax hike, and reward ✅ small businesses, contractors, homebuilders, and other job creators to bring home powerful paycheques.
Lantsman in the News
Canadians are desperate to turn the page – but nothing has really changed. We need a carbon tax election NOW so Canadians can decide, instead of waiting around for the Liberal drama machine to figure out what’s best for their Liberal political careers.
Trudeau triggers a Liberal leadership race and plunges Canada into a sea of uncertainty at a moment of national crisis. Election, now.
Every single person running to replace Trudeau as Prime Minister supported his agenda through and through. Nothing has changed.
That’s everything that’s happening in my world. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on all the latest.
