Latest from Lantsman – July 7, 2023
Hey friends,
We’ve been keeping busy spreading the message of our Conservative vision that puts you in charge of your own life and lets you keep more of your hard-earned cash. A vision where government is the servant and you are the master.
Last week, I spent an active week in Thornhill with our community and with folks right across the GTA. Our office is buzzing with lots of case work, visits, meetings and casual drop ins. It was great to be home after 2 months in Ottawa. One highlight: my annual Canada Day event – more on that below.
That was then, but today I’m writing you in a little bit of a different capacity. Right now, I’m leading a parliamentary delegation to Taiwan, at the invitation of their government. We’re visiting Taipei to strengthen our two nations’ economic ties, defend against Beijing’s aggression, and learn more about the very real threat to peace and democracy in Asia.
As many of you know, I’ve been a steadfast supporter of Taiwan for a long time because it is in our national interest to ensure they remain a strong friend and ally.
When I return, there will be no shortage of things to do in Thornhill, in the GTA, and across Canada as we work to spread our positive Conservative message and get Justin Trudeau out of office.
Look forward to catching up this summer. If you’re planning an event and would like me to stop by, please reach out and send me the details!
Best,
Melissa Lantsman

A Recap of the Parliamentary Session
The books have closed on the latest parliamentary session – and what a session it was. From inflation to crime, government ethics to foreign interference, there were plenty of things to touch on as we held the Liberals to account.
Take a look at the highlights here:
Happy Canada Day!
I hope you enjoyed your long weekend and the celebrations in your community.
Many of you stopped by our shindig in Thornhill – a great time was had by all. Looking forward to an even bigger event next year.
Thanks to the team at Vaughan Fire and Rescue for making a special appearance. And thanks to everyone who donated a nonperishable food item – 100% goes to local food banks in York Region.
Canadian Parliamentary Delegation to Taiwan
A highlight from the trip thus far – meeting with Madam President Tsai of Taiwan. A warm welcome from a friend and ally.
Our trip truly underscores the grave threat that Beijing poses and the need for democracies to work together.
There’s so much potential here – it’s in Canada’s economic and strategic interest to strengthen our relationship with Taiwan. I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.
We had a Deal
We had a deal in Canada. Trudeau’s taken it away. We’ll bring it back. Learn more here:
Bill C-18 | The Icing on the Liberal Cake of Failure
Liberal Bill C-18 has passed Parliament and it’s doing exactly what we said it would.
Canadians will no longer have access to news content on platforms like Facebook and Google thanks to Minister Pablo Rodriguez’s incompetence.
This isn’t the first time he’s let us down – remember Bill C-11? The Liberal censorship bill? That was his doing too.
Enough. Canadians deserve a free, fair, open Internet. Small, independent news outlets deserve to compete and be heard. Neither is happening right now.
Mortgage Rates are on the Rise…
The cost of government is driving up the cost of living. The more they spend, the more things cost, and the more interest we pay because interest rates go up.
That simple economic principle is at work here in Canada, and it’s hitting where it hurts: your mortgage bill.
We got confirmation of that last month – new stats tell us that mortgage prices are up 30% in just one year. People are getting 60-, 70-, even 90-year mortgages.
We have to put a stop to this before more people start losing their homes. Conservatives will rein in inflationary spending, stop the out-of-control deficits, and put more money back in your pocket. Liberals want to do just the opposite.
…Gas Prices, too.
How does Justin Trudeau celebrate Canada Day?
By raising your taxes.
It might be funny if it wasn’t so serious – and costly.
New Liberal taxes came into effect on July 1st that could cost your family over $1,000 in gas during just one year.
We have a plan to scrap the tax so you can get to work, take your kids to school, and actually fill your tank full of gas. Justin Trudeau only has a plan to raise your taxes more while emissions just keep going up.
Working Hard in Thornhill
I dropped by the Concord West Ratepayers Get-together to see some neighbours and spend some time with one of the most active communities in Thornhill – thanks to everyone who works so hard to make this happen every year!
Closing out the Ark Gate International Film Festival, dedicated to showcasing diverse & captivating films produced by talent from around the world.
We saw brave voices tell the stories that need to be told, win awards for their talent, and have their courage toasted.
Censorship is the enemy of freedom and Ark Gate, their directors, and their supporters know the work they do in the name of free speech matters.
Did you know? Collision is one of the world’s largest tech conference and it was happening last week in Toronto.
I spent some time with friends new and old talking about the impact of social media and AI on democracy. Check out Collision to hear from some inspiring changemakers whose boundless innovation is going reshape the way we do everything.
It was great to spend some time with Easter Seals Canada’s CEO Dave Starrett and Leah Miltchin Carson learning about their work and impact across Canada.
I joined my friend Linda Benjamin at No Frills in Thornhill to help her spread the light pre-Shabbat.
It is amazing to see the impact of friends like Linda, Chabad Flamingo, and so many who stopped to chat.
Light your Shabbat candles before 8:44pm tonight. 🕯️🕯️
A great way to slide into the weekend with a Summer BBQ!
I enjoyed visiting Bill and the entire team at Dominion Doors and Windows.
I heard the message loud and clear from them, as I have everywhere —it’s time for a change in government so that hard work pays off and we can bring home bigger paycheques for workers, for families and for you.
