Trudeau’s CBC Executives Must Testify At Committee After Awarding Themselves Millions In Bonuses

Ottawa, ON – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canadians are struggling. Families are having to pay $700 more for food this year than they did in 2023, while millions of people are having to line up outside of food banks, including one in ten people in Toronto. But for Justin Trudeau’s executives at the CBC, life has never been so good.

Last week, Canadians discovered that the CBC paid out $18.4 million in bonuses this year, including $3.3 million that was awarded to 45 executives. That’s $73,000 per executive, which is much more than an average working Canadian will receive in an entire year. The CBC executives thought it was acceptable to award themselves these bonuses, even though they announced they were cutting 800 jobs in December of last year.

For this reason, Common Sense Conservatives are calling on Trudeau’s CBC executives to testify before the House of Commons’ Committee on Canadian Heritage. Canadians deserve to know how the CBC managed to spend so much taxpayer money while failing to retain their viewership or produce content that Canadians want to consume. Yet the NDP and Liberals refuse to recall the committee to get answers for Canadians.

It’s clear that the CBC has never been more out of touch with Canadians, and the NDP and Liberals continue to cover up for their CBC executives. Every year, the CBC receives $1.4 billion from the Canadian taxpayer, yet still fails to attract viewers or produce content that Canadians actually want to watch. Since 2018, the CBC’s viewership has collapsed by nearly 50 percent, and they have failed to meet 79 percent of the key performance targets that they made for themselves.

The last thing CBC executives deserve is a $73,000 bonus. Only Common Sense Conservatives will end the greed and corruption at the CBC.
